2nd Star to the Right... Then straight on 'til morning... [Dec. 24th, 2009|10:46 pm]

[music |FF X-2 Piano Collection - Eternity ~Memory of Lightwaves~]

It has become a personal habit of mine to write some extensive year-end entry at around this time. Often, this is a positive pep talk entry of sorts for all of us in preparation for the year to come. But I think, it's important to really shift a couple of gears back to really appreciate 2009 for what it truly is: a year of suck. But hold on, there's a point to this and it does end on a reasonably positive note. But for those of you who would opt to skip on this, there's the LJ cut.

There, much better. )

Before 3D sprites and espers... [Dec. 20th, 2009|05:21 pm]

[music |Mega Man 2 - Dr. Wily's Stage]

There was Mega Man.

By the time I encountered the Blue Bomber, the 2nd installment in the long-running game series (reaching its 10th installment in its classic 8-bit platform next year) was already out. Now, it was by no means the first video game I've encountered. And certainly it was not the first game that placed you in the shoes of a hero saving the world.

But it was the first game that made that premise feel epic for me, unlike the light quest of a plumber to save the princess.

And one of the ways they pulled it off?

Music.

The music behind Mega Man II made it feel like some kick-ass-manly-oh-my-god-my-testicles-are-growing-larger epic quest to save the world. While games like Final Fantasy would later refine my affinity for great video game music, Mega Man II certainly started it all for me.

Slavery, slavery, slavery... [Dec. 20th, 2009|03:37 am]

[mood | amused]

As part of my current project with the DepEd, I found myself making floor plans of non-existent offices for exercises involving how to orally (ghehehehehe... I said "ORAL") disseminate (ghehehehehe... I said "seminate") fire escape instructions.

While placing cubicles here and there, all of a sudden I found my head saying, "hehehehe... I will teach them the value of WORKING TO DEATH. Corporate sweatshop hehehehe... Slavery slavery slavery... despair despair despair... anguish anguish anguish... forlornness forlornness forlornness..."

Then I looked at the clock.

*Smack cheeks*

It's 3:30 am. Kaya naman pala.

Time to put this to rest lest I pollute the minds of public high school students.

#82 - Procrastination on this Holiday Nation [Dec. 18th, 2009|11:53 pm]

Here goes my attempt to write a family Christmas letter...

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

...

Um, the end.

Ok wait. Hold that thought. Something is coming up my sleeve. I think I just might know what to write. Ok.
See you in December.

Wait. It IS December.

Bleah. Corny. You get the point.

The youngest member in the household is six years old. I think she is at the age where all her wishes for Christmas come true, including a baby sister.

Once upon a time... [Dec. 16th, 2009|01:32 am]

... a man got his back broken.

But he got his life back.

Once upon a time, this man was framed by one of the planet's biggest megalomaniacs.

But he got his life back.

Once upon a time, evil incarnate sent this man straight into the prehistoric age.

And you know what? He's getting his life back.

Compared to those trials, my plate of shit smells like daisies.

Two opportunities have been handed to me.

I will regain the ground I lost to this year.

I will get my life back.

I think I will watch Hana Yori Dango again, and comfort myself with the story.
I swear, I am Makino Tsukushi.
